SUMMARY:Climate Security and Geostrategic Competition in the Pacific
DESCRIPTION:The Australian Embassy Vienna\, in collaboration with the Climate Change Centre Austria (CCCA) and the Austrian-South Pacific Society (OSPG)\, is hosting a public lecture by Salā Dr George Carter\, Head of the Department of Pacific Affairs and Director of the Pacific Institute at the Australian National University (ANU). In this lecture Dr Carter will examine how climate change is reshaping regional security through its intersection with international politics and strategic rivalry. He will explore how climate impacts – such as rising sea levels and intensified disasters – are not only humanitarian challenges but also drivers of competition\, contrasting a traditional security narrative centred on great powers with a Pacific‑led\, comprehensive climate‑security approach. As strategic tensions between China and the United States intensify\, Dr Carter will highlight how Pacific island countries are navigating these dynamics\, increasingly leveraging climate action as a tool to assert agency\, protect sovereignty\, and shape regional cooperation.Dr Carter is currently spending an extended period in Europe to strengthen international exchange and engage directly with researchers and institutions working on climate\, security\, and Pacific affairs. The event is open to the public and held in English. \n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday\, 27 May 2026 | 6:00–7:30 pmLocation: Climate Lab\, Wien Energie Spittelau\, Vienna \n\n\n\nRegistration Link: eventbrite.at/e/public-lecture-climate-security-geostrategic-competition-in-the-pacific-tickets-1989303492296?aff=oddtdtcreator \n\n\n\nSalā Dr George Carter is the Head of the Department of Pacific Affairs\, Director of the ANU Pacific Institute\, and Cluster Lead on Climate Security and Indigenous and Traditional Knowledge at the Institute for Climate Change\, Energy and Disaster – Senior Fellow at the Australian National University (ANU). In 2025 he was invited by the UN Secretary General to be a Leading Expert as part the of the 15-member UN Independent Expert Group on the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index. He was part of the Presidential Scientific Council for UNFCCC COP29 in Baku\, Azerbaijan.

SUMMARY:Earth Talks Styria
\n\n\n\nEarth Talks Styria_251126_printHerunterladen

SUMMARY:Entwicklungstagung 2025
DESCRIPTION:Aktuelles – Entwicklungstagung \n\n\n\n“Peace\, justice and stable institutions.”\n\n\n\nWeighty words make up the 16th goal of the Sustainable Development Goals: Peace\, justice and strong institutions. It formulates a grand vision\, as peace and justice are ancient dreams of humankind. As the penultimate goal\, it brings together more dimensions than any other of the United Nations‘ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. At first glance\, these dimensions do not seem to fit together. However\, upon closer examination\, it becomes clear that almost all of the other SDGs cannot be achieved without inclusive\, effective and accountable institutions. Many goals are invalid or even nullified without peace\, while achieving them would bring great progress for justice. In this respect\, SDG 16 is the central building block of the entire SDG architecture. In the current global political situation\, we see the following three dimensions as central to the debate at the Development Conference: \n\n\n\n1. peace and conflict management \n\n\n\n2. geopolitical interests and authoritarian tendencies \n\n\n\n3. justice and environmental justice \n\n\n\nSDG Goal 16\, the theme of the Austrian Development Conference 2025 in Innsbruck\, opens up a broad field of debate and discussion on fundamental questions of human development and liberation\, but also on specific development policy strategies. The aim is to create positive images of sustainable development that also encompass legal dimensions and are strong enough to stand up to one-sided appropriation and thus productively support and stimulate the development debate!

SUMMARY:ELIA Leadership Symposium 2025The Power of Many
DESCRIPTION:The 2025 edition of the ELIA Leadership Symposium asks: how can we harness the transformative power of collective intelligence? What are the essential elements that not only create community cohesion but also drive meaningful change? \n\n\n\nHosted by Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Genève\, HES-SO) in Switzerland\, the symposium brings together higher art education leaders\, creative-thinking researchers\, thought leaders on transformative leadership and alternative management models\, economists\, futurologists\, and more. Together\, we will examine the systems and processes needed to enable large groups of individuals to share their knowledge\, data\, and skills to solve complex problems as they navigate societal challenges. How can art education institutions become more than the sum of their parts? What skills are required to lead a crowd or movement with purpose? And what do we do if the system we operate within begins to crack? \n\n\n\nIn an era marked by societal fragmentation—fuelled by political upheaval\, global conflicts\, and the rapid evolution of AI technology—it can often feel as though our art schools\, universities\, and academies are challenged to lead their institutions through these rapid waves of change. \n\n\n\nWhat to expect?\n\n\n\nThrough case study analysis\, dialogue and collaboration with peers\, this symposium will provide international leaders in higher arts education with practical tools and actionable insights to create thriving cultures of care and resilience. Learn strategies to tackle real-world issues such as increased governmental pressure\, budget cuts\, drops in enrolment\, health and wellbeing of staff and students\, student protests\, global politics\, and more. \n\n\n\nWhether your leadership style is visionary\, laissez-faire\, empathetic\, consensus-based\, or something in between—the ELIA Leadership Symposium will equip you with the knowledge and foresight to bridge the gap between traditional hierarchical management and inclusive governance\, ensuring a positive impact both within your institution and for future generations. \n\n\n\nFind out more on their website: ELIA Leadership Symposium 2025: The Power of Many

SUMMARY:Inner Development Goals Summit 2025
DESCRIPTION:Today’s world is dividing socially and politically\, environmentally and technologically. Leading to ever-growing tensions\, conflicts and even war. As a consequence\, we find ourselves pulled between opposing stories\, values and worldviews. Making it harder to stay grounded in what truly matters\, listen to contexts and work for the benefit of future generations on a flourishing planet. \n\n\n\nAt the IDG Summit 2025\, participants will explore how to navigate the polarities we all bring with more wisdom\, courage\, and humility.  What does it mean for us and our organisations to use the potential of inner development to contribute to outer change and regenerative systems? \n\n\n\n“Bridging Polarities” isn’t just the IDG Summit theme of 2025 – it’s an urgent call. To a leadership that transcends division\, acknowledges interconnection and creates real impact in confusing and challenging times. \n\n\n\nJoin a global community of forward thinking senior leaders\, researchers\, consultants\, youth\, artists\, policy-makers\, activists\, change agents and system shakers from across the world! \n\n\n\nhttps://innerdevelopmentgoals.org/events/summit2025
