SUMMARY:European Seminar on AI for Sustainability and Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of climate action and sustainable development. From predictive analytics to smart energy systems\, AI offers powerful tools to enhance decision-making\, optimise resource use\, and develop innovative responses to the climate crisis. \n\n\n\nIn Europe\, universities play a key role in advancing AI solutions that align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)\, contributing to global efforts for a greener and more equitable future. \n\n\n\nAims \n\n\n\nThis Seminar aims to create a dynamic forum for dialogue and exchange at the intersection of AI\, sustainability\, and climate science. Participants will gain insights into the latest AI-driven innovations\, understand the role of AI in achieving SDG targets\, and explore collaborative strategies for responsible and effective AI implementation. \n\n\n\nIt also seeks to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration among academia\, research centres\, technology developers\, public authorities\, and civil society.  \n\n\n\nA key highlight of the event will be the Awards Ceremony for the European Universities Competition on Artificial Intelligence to Promote Sustainable Development and Address Climate Change\, which recognises outstanding student-led AI projects contributing to sustainability and climate action. \n\n\n\nEvent format \n\n\n\nThe Seminar will be held online and will include: \n\n\n\n\nKeynote lectures\n\n\n\nThematic sessions (focused on sustainability and climate change)\n\n\n\nAwards Ceremony – Announcement of the winners of the European Universities AI Competition\n\n\n\n\nDeadlines \n\n\n\nDeadline for submission of abstracts: 20th August 2025 \n\n\n\nDeadline for registrations: 30th October 2025 \n\n\n\nPublication Opportunity \n\n\n\nPapers admitted to the event and presented at it may be submitted to the Book  „AI and the Green Transition: European Perspectives on Sustainable Innovation”. This will be published by Springer Nature as part of the World Sustainability Series\, the leading peer-reviewed book series on sustainability in a higher education context: https://www.springer.com/series/13384. Each author will be given a complimentary PDF of their chapters and the book. The submission is not mandatory\, only suggested. \n\n\n\nHow to attend the seminar \n\n\n\nAn abstract should be up to 300 words long\, describe the rationale and aims of the paper and some of its results\, and be consistent with the seminar theme. General descriptions of broad contexts should be avoided. The full contact details about the author(s) must be provided. Abstracts should be written in the third person. Authors whose abstracts have been accepted will receive further details on how to submit their full papers for the book\, as well as additional information. Full papers for the book are due by 30th January 2026. \n\n\n\nPlease use the following form to submit your abstract: https://forms.office.com/e/u4DS0grS7W \n\n\n\nFor registration\, please fill in the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/tNH2Hcis2L \n\n\n\nRegistration and fees \n\n\n\nTo offset some of the costs of organising the event\, a registration fee of 75 euros will be charged per participant.
